About Me

Hey y’all,

My name is Lasairiona – Las for short, I’m a *cough* 30-some, Irish chick and as of November 2019, I have repatriated to Northern Ireland after spending almost the entire last decade living abroad. I spent nearly 8 years in Houston, Texas and 18 months living in Pune, India. I’m a very transient person. I’m a gypsy, a wanderer, a nomad.  An expat by nature. Being back in Northern Ireland is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

My blog started out as a way of keeping people at home, up to date with our adventures, however, over the last number of years, it has grown into a mod-podge of things, cooking, baking, dieting, travelling and crafting all mixed together with a healthy dose of local things to do and places to see. I have also branched out into the world of Author-ing. I am a published author and here’s a sneaky link to my author page on Amazon.

I’m a sports fan and will pretty much go and see any live sport – though in the last few years my sports fanaticism has taken a back seat to other ventures.  I like Formula 1 racing and hockey.  In Belfast I love the Belfast Giants, and until the Houston Aeros were plucked from Houston to move to Des Moines, leaving me with a broken heart, I went to see them frequently too (check out my blog post, “How did a girl like you, get in to a sport like that?“)  Much more recently, however, I’ve gotten in to fighting.  In my last six months in Houston I discovered (through a friend) Fight Back Fit – a gym specialising in Krav Maga in the Houston area – I went, I got addicted and I completed Level 1/Yellow Belt status before I left Houston (See posts ‘Smells like Krav Spirit – or is that sweat’, ‘A woman in a mans world’ and ‘365 days of Krav’)  Since being in India, I’m yet to start training, but it’s in the post for sure!

My other hobbies include, singing – writing, reading, knitting, cooking/baking, crocheting, photography, scrapbooking and am often referred to as the hostess with the mostess, I love parties, I love party planning and I love any excuse to decorate my house. We also love travelling, and tend to travel quite a bit (check out my travel tab if you’d like to read about our adventures!)

I hope, that whoever you are and wherever you are from, that you find something of worth in my blog.  Like I said, it started out as just a record of our time here but has turned in to so much more!

Also? Check out my January 2016 plus-sized Boudoir shoot, here.

With love and thanks,

Lasairiona

  3. DearLasairiona,

My name is Joyce and I work for ExpatFinder.com.
ExpatFinder.com is a free one stop website for people preparing to move or working and living overseas. We provide a myriad of services for expatriates and we have over 2,000 articles to help and support the people moving around the world and we are now creating an interview section to help the expats with real life experiences!
We quite enjoy your blog about living in Houston, it is very interesting and informative. Would it be possible to interview you to further share some of your tips and feature some of your first hand experience as an Expat and your interview will be published on our Expat Interview section as a guide for our expat readers. The questions are mainly about the day to day lifestyle of an expat. If it would be possible, could you also send some photographs that we can use?
Of course, if you accept, we can add a link to your blog or some of your website.
The questions are enclosed, feel free to respond freely. You can return the doc with your answers if you accept this invitation.
Thanks in advance and do let me know if you prefer other means to conduct this interview and we would be happy to accommodate your terms.

    Best regards,
    Joyce

    1. Hi Joyce, there are no questions posted here, do you have them? I would definitely love to be interviewed for your site and provide you with the information you have requested. Let me know 🙂

  4. Hi! I stumbled across your blog while looking for information on expat life in Houston. We have been living in South Korea for the past 4 years and just got word that we are moving to Houston in a couple of months. We are pretty excited. I’m originally from Dallas, my fiance is from Australia and we met in Korea. It’ll be fun to play expat in my home state, but I’m a bit nervous that I’ll be bored. This will be my first move as a company partner. I’m not sure our company has anything like a welcoming committee. Sounds amazing!

Do you know of any good social groups that you would recommend for a newbie?

    1. Hey! Thanks for dropping by 🙂 do you know which area of Houston you’ll be moving to? My email address is icemaiden013@gmail.com – feel free to email all questions there!

I’d definitely recommend international connections Houston as a group to join! And obviously we can hang out when you get here 🙂
