Day 4 – An outdoors-woman in the making?

Friday morning, we slept in (as it turned out the room faced the indoor swimming pool, so we didn’t get any natural light at all!) We all got showered and headed to the Spaghetti Factory for lunch.  It was my first time eating there – though I’ve driven past the restaurant numerous times in Houston.  It wasn’t bad at all – and, very reasonably priced.  I particularly enjoyed the salad bar!

We made it back to Van Horne in just under 2 hours, where I washed my hair, packed and we loaded up the car again.  It was a pretty quick turnaround!

From there, it was off to Walmart to pick up supplies for camping (bug spray, sun screen, short pjs, food, alcohol etc!) At the campsite, Aaron had already set up camp for us – the tent, the fire, the lot! (He’s such a great outdoorsman!) Leanne joined us and we headed down to the lake for a swim with Averie (who screamed when we decided it was time for dinner!)

This was our home for the night!

After our swim and a quick cold shower (jeez! I’m shivering just thinking about it!) we went back to camp to make dinner.  Aaron had gone in to work, so we were flying solo.  Little did we know, the grill thing on the firepit was broken, meaning we had to Magiver a cooking solution (we test drove it on just a few pieces of chicken first!).

When Aaron returned, he changed out our firepit for a different one and cooked us some killer BBQ chicken before he and Averie left to go home leaving us three girls to drink, eat chicken, drink, make smores, drink…we headed to bed at 12.30am.

Drink!

Actually, what we were drinking was pretty tasty – the Mike’s Hard Lemonade (which I tried for the first time at the Nathanson gig) in a variety of colours and a couple of bottles of the only wine I drink – Amana fruity wine! Perfect!

Me eating the toasted marshmallows!

It rained a little, pretty constantly throughout the evening, just spitting (sprinkling as the girls kept saying!).  But, I loved it! It reminded me so much of home…when you can smell the rain, it’s cool and you can enjoy the outdoors…none of this 90F heat at night nonsense like in Texas! It was fantastic!

It was also the first time I’d ever gone camping (are you seeing a ‘first’ trend appearing out of this trip?) and I was pretty much dreading it before we went.  Sleeping on the ground, being outdoors, not having electricity etc? Hell no! That sh*t ain’t for me! I’m a ‘modern gal’.  However, I loved my camping experience so much that I text Col and asked him if we could buy a tent! LOL!!! I can’t wait to go again!

Yay camping!
