Paperback writer…

Letter writing on the open sea - April 2010

I’ve been told by a few people in the last week or so, that I’m a good writer.  They have said to me that I should consider becoming a writer, or, that I’m great at planning things and should consider becoming an event planner.

During the ‘Empowering Expat Women’ workshop the other day, Marie said that when she sat down to think about it, if she could do anything in the world or spend her time however she’d like she came up with 50% singing and 50% writing.

I’ve been giving my own answer some thought this week and mine would probably be the same as Marie’s – only I’d split my time 3 ways.  A third of my time on writing, a third on singing and a third on organising things and making lists! haha! Yes, I know it sounds rather stupid but I don’t particularly care.

Also this week, a number of people have told me to try to prepare myself for a meltdown, post-wedding, when I’ve suddenly got nothing left to plan, when everyone goes home and things are back to ‘normal’, but no sooner will that happen and we’ll be getting ready to go home for Christmas! I don’t think I’ll be too bad, I think I’ll be seeking some solace and ‘me time’ by the time everyone leaves – and I’ll probably need a holiday, or at least a massage!

As for having no ‘to-do’ list, I’m sure I’ll find something! My friends Nicky and Nikki will tell me that it’s time for a knitting to-do list of things that I’ve been putting off lately.

These last two weeks have been odd – taking aside the fact that time is utterly flying past (and we are fast approaching the 4 week out mark!), I’ve been getting up before Col every morning (which is a rare occurrence!!), I’ve been productive and moving forward with plans and even making phone calls to people – which, Col (or Amber) will tell you is out of character for me, since I don’t like phonecalls!

It’s been a 6-7.30am start most mornings and I’ve been fading around 9.30pm, which is kind of strange since Col and I usually stay up until after midnight a lot.  It’s kind of funny, I go to bed with the intention of watching an episode of something with Col on his laptop, I lie my head on his shoulder and wake up a while later – never knowing how long I’ve been asleep to him just lying there patiently for me to move.

He can’t go to sleep himself, because it’s too hot (he likes to be cool in bed), so he just waits for me to move myself! haha! Poor guy! I turn and ask him how long I’ve been asleep (he never knows either) and ask him why he didn’t wake me, or move me and he tells me that he just likes listening to my breathing, aww! (I think he’s too afraid to move me! LOL!)

This past weekend was a lot more social than we’d intended it to be, Friday, I had coffee (and knitting) with Lisa, who I hadn’t seen in an age and Col worked like a crazy man.

Saturday was busy, busy, busy, (but productive too!) for us, we headed into the city to try and find a decoration rental place, I got my first hair trial out of the way, we paid off the baker, added suits for our fathers to our tux rental and somewhere in among all of that I got a message from Ann asking if we fancied Mexican, to which I jumped at the chance cause the place we go with them has the BEST margaritas!

So we went home, didn’t have time to change because we spent the half hour we DID have before going to pick them up, booking the outstanding minivan for the wedding, picked up Ann and Paul and headed to Chuy’s for dinner.

I guess what I neglected to say was that all Col and I had eaten all day was half a small chicken sandwich, so when I threw my first margarita down me – I felt it at once! LOL! What an idiot I am!

Anyway, dinner was great (as always!), the margaritas were great (as always!) and the company was great (yes, you guessed it, as always! lol!).  When we’d done with dinner we headed to Ann and Paul’s house where I drank Sangria and played with their new Boxer Bella – who, is such a sweetie and although she was shy when we first met her, she warmed to us pretty quickly!  We went home late and I passed out at once! haha – I swear, I must be getting old!

Sunday was another busy(ish) day too, moreso in the afternoon.  When Col got up, we watched the Singapore GP qualifying before I had my dress fitting, then we came home in a total scramble, we stopped at Randall’s to get potatoes and Col almost had a breakdown cause it took him a half hour to get through the till – oopsy!

Sam and Magz came down for dinner and the Grand Prix.  We had a proper Sunday Roast (complete with stuffing and a nice glass of cherry wine) and we enjoyed a great race with their dogs Basil and Poppy buzzing about the living room – so cute!

Although it was a productive weekend we still have a ways to go, my list was getting shorter until this morning when I talked to Amber and now it’s getting longer again! haha!

Something this weekend made me acutely aware of was that I miss having a dog around – which isn’t a great surprise but when you’re not around them to miss them, you don’t really realise that you miss them, y’know?

Today, I’ve not done a single thing I was supposed to do – not one.  In fact, I’m still in my pj’s and am batting back and forward with Amber about decoration ideas and stuff that I need to get done and sorted!

Under 5 weeks to go! Where has time gone?

Col actually said to me the other night that he’s glad we brought the wedding forward from our original plan of Spring 2011 and are having it this year.  It’s given us a solid deadline, goals to work toward and made us be a lot more savvy with our cash.  He also said that he’s pretty sure my couponing skills and smart spending has saved us ‘thousands’ with regard to the wedding which was nice to hear.  He’s always good at telling me I’ve done well at things, especially when it’s saving money 😉

I should probably go back to my to-do list, we’ve got dinner at Julie and Sherif’s tonight and I have my Drive Smart class tomorrow ahead of flying to Iowa on Wednesday for a week – oh the busy life I lead eh?
