Day 4 – A BBQ and a trip to see the astronauts!

Day 4 – Sunday

We enjoyed a lie-in on Sunday morning, when I got up, I made more frosting and frosted the cupcakes I’d made from the night before, for the BBQ.  We packed up the car and arrived (late as usual) to the McGuigan’s BBQ (which, as it turned out, they’d changed to Lasagne instead!)

When we got there, there was a momentary boo-boo with my cupcakes.  I handed them to Col while I got out of the car, he wasn’t gentle enough with them and they all went tits-up, landing square on their frosting, making a big ole mess! After a few minutes of seeing red (and cuddling with an adorable 10 week old baby!) everything was forgiven!

All our fave peeps were there, The McGuigans, Soo and 10 week old Sebastian (Adrian and Max were home sick), The Stevensons, The Rojas (who we’d not seen in FOREVER!), a new girl Naomi who I’d helped relocate here with SLB but had never met yet, it was great fun and, if we didn’t have plans to go to NASA that afternoon, I could have happily stayed there all day!

Col and I in the sweltering heat!

We didn’t get to NASA til 4.30, so, we kind of screwed our guests out of a full NASA experience as 4.30-7pm isn’t a whole heap of time to do NASA, especially when the tram tour takes 1hr 30mins!  However, we fitted in the movie in the theatre and we did the Tram-tour so we pretty much covered the hot-parts.  We did promise to take them back if they visit again, so they can do NASA in full.

The only group shot from their visit!!
I really like this picture for some reason!

En route home, we decided it was time to try the Pei Wei Chinese for dinner.  I’ve seen it a few times, never been prompted to try it, so this was a great excuse.  Col got egg rolls and honey chicken; I had crab puffs and a green Thai curry (which made me miss Magz loads as I usually only eat Thai food when I’m with her!).  The dinner was delicious, very reasonably priced and the portions were pretty big – I enjoyed it so much that my SSA buddies and I are going to go there for lunch next week!

That night, yup, you guessed it, it was more BGT, loading pictures to the interwebz and an intended ‘early night’ turned in to a midnight or later bed-time! *yawn*

Day 5/Monday

Monday morning, the alarm went off at 5.30am.  Instead of doing what most normal people would do (and get dressed), I stuck a hoodie on over my pj shirt, stuck my slippers on and went to the airport sporting my fantastically awesome Teenage Mutant Hero (ninja to the Americans reading) Turtles pj bottoms.  Starbucks in hand, we all headed up to the Airport to say goodbye.

I don’t tend to enjoy airport trips when we’re saying goodbye to people, but I’ve grown to not hate it so much when I’m sure our guests had an enjoyable time and we showed them all we could in the time we had available.  That’s how I feel about this visit – I’m happy with how it went.  It was great to finally meet Vanessa (and Mike cause I’ve been hearing about him for a couple years now!) and to hang out and show them our home-town here in Texas.

After the airport, I took a 3 hour ‘nap’, before preparing for my coupon seminar and finishing my presentation (and the rest of the day was pretty boring now that I think about it!) and we topped the day off with some tasty steaks that I picked up for a steal!

  1. Omg, I am so jealous of all of your restaurant trips!

Well done for controlling your rage with Col over the cupcakes!

    1. To grocery shop and cook fresh here? Isn’t so cheap – in fact, it’s probably on par or more expensive than at home. To eat out though? Man is it CHEAP!!!!!

And thanks – I wanted to pull his head from his shoulders!!!
