Got stones?

Wow! What a week it’s been…I had a plan for this week, the plan changed, came totally off the rails and y’know what? I think the way it worked out was a bloody marvelous diversion from ‘the norm’ in spite of the fact the derailment was for all the wrong reasons.  Namely, stones…

I won’t say too much about it, but a good friend of ours, ended up in hospital with a rather bothersome (and agonising) kidney stone.  Monday, Col and I spent the afternoon in Methodist hospital (the same one where Bush Sr. spent his recovery) after having invaded her room with a bag of grapes and months of catching up to do while Mrs VDW was hooked up to an IV and Mr VDW was ‘enjoying’ a rare day off work.

I say ‘enjoying’ because when your wife collapses and needs carted off to the hospital, it’s not a fun thing, so even though he was off work, it wasn’t for any fun reason.  Though, not to blow our own trumpets, we kind of brought the fun.

Tuesday, Magz, Eve and I went to the farmers market, had a nice lunch and then pitched up at the VDW residence for an afternoon of keeping Mrs VDW distracted from the fact she wasn’t allowed to work, run or, well, move much at all really – and how did we do such a thing? We kept the pots of tea flowing, and we brought cake – not to mention Eve brought the cute, in abundance!

For those of you in Houston who have never tried Crave Cupcakes, what, in the name of all that is holy are you waiting for??

The flavours I chose were: (click the name of the cupcake to see what it’s made of)

Italian Cream, Mint Chocolate, Peanut butter chocolate, Red velvet, Pistachio and white chocolate and macadamia nut

When we got to the VDW house, we cut up 4 of them (red velvet, pistachio, mint chocolate and Italian cream) and sat them very posh-like on a cheese board and enjoyed a very civilised, mostly girlie afternoon around the table.

photo(36)It was great, full of chit-chat and we probably drained poor Mrs VDW of all energy, but she seemed to have plenty of wind in her sails until long after the husbands arrived brandishing a bag filled with curry and rice for us (well, except Mrs VDW, she had soup).

We all really enjoyed it, it was nice to get back together for a catch-up, even though it under rather unfortunate circumstances.

After..
After..

By Thursday, I was back on schedule, my friend Shelley invited a few of us to lunch and by golly, lunch we did!  I found a place on Yelp (where I find many of the places we frequent) that was in keeping with my resolution to try new places to eat this year and we enjoyed a four-hour, yes indeedy, a four hour, obnoxiously loud, rambunctious and giggly lunch with four of the best people I know.

When I left the restaurant, my cheeks hurt, my ribs hurt and I felt a little sick from all the giggling, but my mood was fantastic.

I absolutely love my friends.  I can’t say it enough, I really, genuinely love my friends!

Today I had a ‘working lunch’ with my girl Jo, she and I also hit-up somewhere new and had a very nice catch-up.  We talked about plans for my upcoming birthday tea party (yeah, I bet you wish you lived closer to me now, huh?) and what kind of yummy treats I plan on serving – it got me very excited indeed!

On my way home, I decided to go to Katy, to check in with a Goodwill (or three) for my tea party supply shopping, however, instead I get a call from another friend of mine, Helen – calling a ‘911’ on Hobby Lobby, where, thanks to her, I bagged over $700’s worth of Cricut supplies for my craft room, for $75, $35 of which was paid for by the remainder of my Christmas present gift card from my in-laws!

Like I said, I love my friends (especially when they give me a heads-up on crafty goodies in Hobby Lobby!)

This week has been a very good week, I’ve laughed and spend time with people I love, and when I plopped on to the sofa tonight to watch West Wing with my husband, I realised that it’s January 18th…wow! I can’t quite believe how fast January is slipping through my fingers! Can you believe it?

Carpe Diem folks!!

This weekend is a quiet one…I say that every weekend, right before the quiet gets taken off the calendar 😉
