It ain’t all bad…

Y’know, it’s true.  Lately, I’ve lost a lot of faith in the world.

When you’re little, you’re taught that ‘good triumphs over evil’, you’re taught to ‘have faith and all will come right’ and every Disney movie you watch has a happy ending – so it’s easy to believe, and have faith.

When you grow older, realization dawns, the rose tinted glasses come off, and you discover that the world can be a truly dark and terrifying place to be.

I’ve stopped listening to and watching the news, it makes me angry and it makes me scared.  The newscasters attempt to share ‘joy’ by plucking some obscure new story out of thin air, that tries to brighten up our days, but when it comes down to it, it’s crime, death and poverty.

Call me cynical, but the world is getting worse and not better, kids are getting ‘worse’ and not better and before deciding to try for our own little people, I had to have a long, hard think about whether I truly wanted to bring a child into the world.  Into THIS world.

Tonight, some of my faith was restored in humanity.  Colin and Helena had just walked up to the ticket booth at the Toyota Center to buy our tickets, leaving me about a hundred feet from them – a man approached me, (a small ‘caution alarm’ rang in the back of my head, because in downtown Houston, you never know who is approaching you) waved something in my face and said, ‘hey, here, take these two tickets, we have extras’, I kind of stuttered something like ‘are you sure?’ but before I’d even finished asking him, he was gone.

True enough, he gave me valid tickets (cause someone can’t just hand you tickets and run off, right? Ever the cynic!!) that saved us around $40!

I’m still in shock!

I looked around our section during the game, to try and find our good, Samaritan to thank him, and maybe buy him a drink (or a popcorn), but to no avail.

I want to thank this total stranger, who saved us a tasty $40 and made our day and if we ever meet again, I owe you a pint…maybe the world ain’t all bad after all!

  1. Wow! That doesn’t happen all that often at all. Moments like that definitely help restore the balance.

I’ve been avoiding the news too – the papers here are full of stuff about the Church (sex abuse scandals, women bishops, the new archbishop, etc) or about the conflict in the Middle East and I just don’t know how much I actually want to know about what the media says about this. I’d rather just quietly keep praying for the situations in my own way.

Hopefully I should now get your new posts by email as well… *crosses everything*

    1. Exactly, it’s horrible 🙁 I’m very touched that this guy just handed me a freebie, I even cracked a smile at humanity! LOL! 🙂

Hope you’re doing well Lou xx

  2. The world is full of good people! If you want to see one, go look in the mirror :). Have lots of fun with your sis!
