Posh frocks at the ready!

Wednesday 5th October, I was up early, today was an exciting day for me!

Time for the Fall Social!!

It is a huge event in the SSA calendar, we normally host two or three socials a year, where around 100 ladies get together and have a slap up lunch, chat with friends and sometimes, hear a speaker etc.

I’ve only been able to attend two SSA Socials since I’ve arrived, one at a country club (who’s name escapes me just now!) and one at Maggianos, a lovely Italian restaurant.

Two socials in two and a half years? Man, writing that down in black and white, sounds kinda of shameful!! lol!

Every time the SSA have scheduled a social, I’ve been out of town, Iowa for Averie’s birthday, Malaysia for our honeymoon, home for Christmas etc, the timing has always sucked and I’m never able to make it.

This time? Well, this time I made SURE I was going to be back from Singapore to make this social, I got glammed up in my posh frock (a dress I’d bought the previous October for our wedding rehearsal dinner) and headed up to Lakeside Country Club.

Four of us carpooled from Sugar Land, Lori, Cindy, Ana Maria and I (with me driving) and aside from a near-death experience, where a guy who wasn’t paying attention almost rear ended me (I know I’m prone to slight exaggeration, but this was serious, screeching tyres, the lot) the whole morning went perfectly!

Each of the board members had a table, my table had Texas tourism booklets and sign up sheets, for people to sign up to my welcome group.

I had no idea what Lisa was doing...I was clearly very confused ! Picture courtesy of Bobby Sood!
Magz and I, gorgeous picture courtesy of the talented Bobby Sood!

Everyone complimented me on my outfit (most people had never seen me in a dress before, so there was a bit of a fuss!), the food was delicious (and there was plenty of it!), the craic was great, and, best of all, I managed to raise $150 to go toward my 5 mile sponsored walk in aid of the American Heart Association…

In case you happen to have a few bucks to spare, to donate, go here!

I even got a wee prezzie for my second year of service on the SSA board, it was a lovely morning of fun and I can’t wait for the next social!
